A gateway orange wine for everyone! From one of our favorite
importers of natural wine, LA-based Amy Atwood, comes this fun and
affordable orange wine. Amy works with top quality, chemical-free
vineyards in Sonoma and a like-minded Healdsburg winemaker to make a
small range of natural wines with this philosophy: start with pristine
fruit, use only native yeasts, no additives, and neutral oak. She
calls it Oeno, which is the ancient Greek word for wine, as well as
the name of a goddess known for turning water into wine.
Her pinky-orange skin-contact wine is rich and satisfying, with bright
stone fruit, white flowers and citrus. The aromatics give way to dry
tannins, allowing subtle spice flavors to shine. But she ain't a
delicate wine -- even though its 93% Chardonnay (with 14 days skin
contact), and just 7% Pinot Noir, the Pinot comes out boldly and the
creaminess of the Chardonnay adds richness. It finishes with pretty
funk and electric zip. And, she'll last through day 3 of being open,
and rather than being intellectual or extreme in any way, this is an
orange wine that's easy for everyone to enjoy. Refreshing and fun for
spring!
