Here’s another example of a crazy natural wine that is clean and juicy and meant to drink, not think about. Brought to you by Alessandro Dettori, a staunch defender of Sardinian tradition and the guy who famously says this…”Sorry but we don’t follow the market, we produce wines that we like, wines from our culture. They are what they are and not what you want them to be.” Alessandro renounces the DOC system, preferring to sell his wine as humble IGT, because he feels the DOC is too generic and doesn’t adequately reflect the terroir of Sardinia – plus he doesn’t give a f*#$ about regulations of any sort. Despite all this bravado, the wine is relaxed, easy – juicy and intense, with explosive flavors of red cherry, licorice and spice, plus a subtle saline quality – it’s pure and evocative of the Sardinian coast from which it hails. Drink now, with a slight chill and something from the grill.
