2022 Field Recordings 'Shake' Piquette
2022 Field Recordings 'Shake' Piquette
Region: Edna Valley < Central Coast < CA
Grape: Albariño
Vineyard/cellar stats: Organic farming; after pressing the grapes for the main wine, the leftover skins were rehydrated with water, which brings out any sugars left in the pomace. After letting them soak a bit, the rehydrated pomace is pressed again for a second time and treated just like a pet-nat. The juice is bottled at about zero Brix, fermentation finishes in the bottle, pet'nat style. Unfined, unfiltered, no added sulfites; 7.1% ABV
Winemaker: Andrew Jones
- Field Recordings is a small natural project from Andrew Jones, a vine nursery fieldman planning and planting vineyards for farmers all over California - who often is offered mall lots of their best fruit on the side
- The origin story, from the winery: "We’ve made piquette for many years now under the label TANG. We’ve refined that process and started to see lots here and there that were consistently superior. This piquette of Albariño from the Morro View vineyard was always the best of the grapeskin teas. We kept that lot separate this year to bottle SHAKE. Piquette is truly upcycling in the winemaking world. Instead of getting rid of the Albarino pomace, we hydrate it and create a grape sun tea, essentially."
- Spritzy limeade, Jasmine tea, ruby red grapefruit
- Super refreshing and low in alcohol.
- PAIRS WITH leafy greens, Entenmann's coffee cake, sunny mornings
