Due Terre Wines is a collaboration between friends, Alcamo native Vito Lauria and California-based wine merchant Catherine Stratton. Vito returned to Sicily in 2005 after getting his Enology degree in Udine in 2003 and spending a few years working at wineries in Northern Italy. With Catherine's help, he revitalized his family’s old winery in Alcamo and worked his relationships with the local small family that he had known since childhood. 'Sicilitri' is the newest project from the duo - liter bottles with a crown cap closure, still using only native Sicilian varietals, bottled unfined and unfiltered. The sourcing for the grapes comes from organic family vineyards and long term contracts from no more than an hour away from the winery. The concept behind the liter bottles was to create a product that from year to year can change as far as varietal breakdown- the wines are focused on a particular style and high level of drinkability. They must be light on their feet, low in alcohol (max 12.5%), refreshing, and a great value. All of the labels were 100% designed by Catherine, from the lettering to the original artwork.
Grown at a very high elevation, this 'Biancu' white blend is zesty and energetic, with citrus fruit and flowers (lemon zest, wild oranges and citrus blossoms), grapefruit and a touch of green herbs. The splash of Grillo provides some body, great juicy acidity and a hint of flinty smokiness on the finish. Such a fun wine, and we love the big bottle packaging.
