Alberto Giacobbe's estate was founded in the late 1940's by Alberto's his grandfather, Leopoldo, who began to cultivate a small plot of Cesanese on Colle San Giovenale, about 40 km southeast of Rome in Paliano. In 2008, Alberto took over the now 9 hectare estate from his father, who previously sold most of the crop to the local co-op, keeping a little back to make wine which they sold in bulk on the local market. Alberto immediately converted the vineyards to organic farming, drastically reduced yields and implemented a natural approach and philosophy in the vineyards and cellar.
His pretty Duchessa is bright and minerally, proudly showing her rocky, volcanic soils. She drinks like a crisp, structured Chenin, nicely textured with a salty tang to the citrus fruit, white flowers and crushed rocks. A fun and refreshing alternative to the Sauv Blanc/Pinot Grigio vein of crisp whites, impress friends with your wine range by pouring this unique Lazio white with a plate of spaghetti a la carbonara. Yum.
