This is classic, clean Chianti from certified organic estate near Panzano in Chianti, run by the lovely di Battista family. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the proprietors, Jacopo di Battista and his American wife Mary, over the past two years, and stay with them in the summer. Jacopo's family has farmed the small hilltop estate without chemicals since inception in 1998, and has been certified organic since 2012. They’re equally low-intervention in the cellar, using only native yeast and a small amount of sulfur at bottling.
'Furtivo' is their rosato of Sangiovese. Here's what Jacopo says about it: "Starting from vintage 2020 Furtivo is a direct pressing and not a saignée anymore. We picked the Sangiovese early for the rosé pressing. Even if I not a big fan of Rosé wines 🤣 I have to admit that's pretty beautiful!"
And we couldn't agree more! Light and bright, shining the prettiest light peach color, this is classic Prôvençal-style rosé that tastes like summer and strawberries and juicy melon. Furtivo, which translates as ‘sneaky’, is a bit sneaky in that it is so fresh and easy to drink that, before you know it, the bottle is gone.
