Petrichor is a term developed by Australian geolgists in the 1960s - a
word that means "the scent of rain on dry earth". Jim and Margaret
Foley chose this name for their high elevation, single-vineyard
CCOF-certified estate vineyard in Sonoma's Mayacama mountains because
it defines their passion for terroir driven wines. Thankfully they
(narrowly) survived the devastating 2017 Fountaingrove fire, and today
they make small quantities of Grenache and Syrah. They partner with
some of Cali's best and brightest winemakers and farmers to translate
their special terroir into the bottle. And the roster is impressive:
Viticulturist, Steve Matthiasson (Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, Araujo
Estate, Spottswoode, Hall & of course, Matthiasson) and Vineyard
Manager, Lee Martinelli, Jr. (Martinelli Winery); founding Winemaker,
Duncan Arnot-Meyers (Kongsggard, Littorai, Arnot-Roberts) and current
Winemakers, Ryan & Megan Glaab (Sine Qua Non, Torbreck, Pisoni, Wind
Gap, RYME).
'Carma' is Ryan and Megan's carbonic take on Grenache that is bright
and juicy, floral and fragrant, with cherry, strawberry, dried
flowers, hisbiscus and bubblegum. With its generous fruit, plush
tannins, and Christmas spic, you want this wine, lightly chilled, in
your glass for Thanksgiving dinner and holiday celebrations.
