If you know Spanish whites, it's probably just Albariño which also hails from the coastal part of Galicia, the "green" region of Spain that gets a ton of rain. But Ribeiro is inland in Galicia, and located in a warm pocket with granite hillsides blocking the wind and reflecting warmth back onto the vineyards. Here, Treixadura is the queen grape because it maintains acidity and develops more slowly, making it better suited to the warmer sub-climate of Ribeiro. Coto de Gomariz is a family-run estate on a granite-laden parcel of land that has been producing grapes since the 12th century, where today Imma is managing the vineyards and making the wine. While not certified organic (the plots are too small and close to neighbors to qualify for certification) they carefully farm their vines organically, with some Fukuoka influence as well, so they do not spray herbicides or insecticides.They make mostly whites and one red, all from local grapes, including this gorgeous Treixadura (that has a splash of a few other local whites in there). So energetic and fresh, with a lovely rounded texture, golden apple and peach, grassy herbs, subtle minerality and a zesty Sweet Tart finish, this is the wine we're drinking now with with all of the Spring things.
