William Allen and Karen Daenen are the Two Shepherds. He's a software salesman by day, and she runs consumer research for Jackson Family Wines. But their heart is on the farm, and in the Rhône, two loves they combine with their 2-human, 3 donkey and 4-goat farm and micro-winery outside of Healdsburg, CA. They have one small estate vineyard but mostly work with purchased grapes, insisting on organic, and model their wines on the Rhône and other natty French styles they love, making tiny lots of old world, low-intervention bottlings from cool climate sites. While they work together to make the wine, Karen considers herself Chief Shepherdess, a title she rightly owns after birthing the baby Luna, the mini donkey that inspired this delicious lightly fizzy Cinsault in a can.

The story of Luna Donata, born a week before the SIP started, is pretty cute. She came as a surprise - quite literally - as they had no idea her mama, another new donkey, was even pregnant when they got her. Karen went to feed them one day, and finding Luna halfway out, she jumped in and pulled her out the rest of the way!
We've been loving the trend of high quality natural wine in a can, and this is one of the best canned reds we've had. Super bright, juicy and way too drinkable, it tastes like tart hibiscus juice and black cherry, with some puckery pomegranate, like an adult Capri Sun. Serve chilled but not too cold, either poured into a glass, if you're feeling fancy, otherwise straight from the can. Pairs well with summer picnics, pools, and beaches and anywhere else discreet or glass-less sipping is required. Just remember, each can is a HALF BOTTLE of wine, so don't go slamming the whole can. Or do. It's less than 11% ABV, after all.
