The owners of Troon like orange wines, so they've been experimenting with their own version using all estate fruit, hence Kubli Bench (the geologic formation the winery and vineyards are situated upon). Here Riesling, Vermentino and a touch of Viognier get 14 to 21 days of skin contact each in the varietally separate fermentations. They blend the final wine and rest it in quite old French oak barrels. While it's a good amount of time on skins, it doesn't get tannic, making an aromatic elixir that's more like orange-wine lite. They call it Amber though, no orange. Here's why: "While popularly called orange wines these days, we call wines we make in this style amber wines, as that is what they’re called in the Republic of Georgia, where they have been made for thousands of years." So, history. But taste? Dee-lish! Coppery gold color, a little cloud, it exudes a sultry perfume of orange blossom, honeysuckle, and something bitter-earthy, like beer. On the palate, the flavors are super bright, fresh and clean, with sharp acids amplifying the zesty citrus, and fine tannins firming up the finish. An elegant and structured amber wine for everyone.Regular price
