This fun, new project from two Chicago natives comes to us from
partners Rande Feldman and Aaron Cherny who met while working harvest
in California in 2017, and is a testament to the terroir of Sonoma
Valley. All of the vineyards they source from are located in this
overlooked AVA that doesn’t have as defined an identity as other
Sonoma County AVAs, like Chalk Hill, Alexander Valley or the Sonoma
Coast. However, what it lacks in branding it makes up for in history.
It is home to the oldest commercially operated winery in California,
Buena Vista, and grapes were originally planted in the region in 1823.
Rande, a long time vineyard manager, knew where to find all of the fun
relics of Sonoma Valley’s past, an insider track that he leveraged to
bring Source + Sink to fruition. The red blend comes from three
different vineyards: Kimberley for the Zinfandel, Bedrock for the
Alicante Bouschet and some of the Petite Sirah and Hooley for the rest
of the Petite Sirah. Kimberley Vineyard is dry -armed and the vines
are own-rooted, and Bedrock is over 300 years old!  All three are
farmed organically to boot, making this wine a true, natty California
gem with history attached. While we love the story behind the grapes,
we also love the classic Sonoma profile of the juice -- full-bodied,
generous red fruit alongside some crunchy black plum, soft tannins,
moderate acid and savory, herbal to notes.  While there is oak aging,
it isn't an oaky wine at all, and all of the elements are perfectly
balanced, so your palate isn't clobbered by big, sweet fruit or high
alcohol.  An excellent example of a classic Cali red blend done
naturally.  Your dad would approve, and you won't mind drinking it
with him, especially alongside some BBQ.
