A trained agronomist and oenologist, Cedric Lecareux spent 15 years working in the wine business before starting his own project. But when Cédric and his wife Catherine, native of Beaujolais, discovered the property in the Beaujolais cru village of Régnié, it was love at first sight. Located in Régnié, the wine estate, around for more than 250 years, charmed them with its old stones and ancient arched cellars. With an existing winery and 3.5 hectares of old Gamay vines surrounding the house, it was a no-brainer -- they took the plunge and made their first vintage in 2014. Two years later, they bought an additional 2 ha of vines in the nearby village of Lantignié. Everything the couple does is hands on and natural; the results are pure, fresh Beaujolais from Régnié's rocky soils. Their philosophy: great grapes for great wines! Sounds like a Rock Juice producer!
If you know the gals at Rock Juice, you know we loveeeee Gamay. Cedric and Catherine's 'l'Amourgandise' is 100% Gamay from their vineyards in Lantignié done in full carbo style. The name is a play on the french word "gourmandise" (gourmet or gluttony). While this wine displays all the "gourmandise" that Gamay can give, we don't call it gluttony when it's a 13% porch pounder!
But it is a deliciously rich wine full of blackberries and punchy, poppy red fruit, with soft, plush tannins and a firm structure. With all that juicy fruit and bright acid, this one can just as easily go glou glou aperitif, slightly chilled, or serious, and quite versatile, dinner wine. Gamay lovers stock up, biodynamic Bojo at this price is a rare bird!
