2019 Bott Frigyes Just Enjoy White
2019 Bott Frigyes Just Enjoy White
Region: Južnoslovenská > Slovakia
Grapes: Gewurtztraminer, Welschriesling
Vineyard/Cellar Stats: organic farming, volcanic and clay soil, 250m altitude, after harvest grapes are 10-15% foot trodden, 50% whole cluster, and the rest is destemmed, 6 days carbonic maceration together in open vat, pressed and aged in old barrel; bottled unfined/unfiltered; 12.5% ABV
Winemaker: Bott and Frici Frigyes (father and son)
We love the wines from Bott Frigyes, so we're psyched they’ve started making an entry level bottling that more people can ‘Just Enjoy’, as the label cheekily dictates. And we do! It hits your tongue with a touch of spritz, then mellows into seductive stone fruit and apple butter on the mid-palate. After that we head into mineral territory - in that mouth watering way when you can feel it on the sides of your mouth. Here we taste the volcanic soil that works so well with aromatic grapes like Gewurtztraminer and Welschriesling. The Frigyes vineyards are situated on the Slovakian border of Hungary, and like many people in many border regions, are ethnically Hungarian. The family is slowly bringing back pre-WW1 Hungarian traditions but using just enough modern technology to ensure the best representation of their terroir. Pull this out with chili verde, a cheese plate or roasted fig tart- Fall here we come!
