Denmark before coming to Healdsburg to somm at Dry Creek Kitchen and
Cyrus in the early aughts. He brings that well-honed sommelier
palate, as well as the consumer perspective, to his own label,
The grapes for this beautifully intricate Chardonnay come from a cool
site high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains, with views of the Pacific
Ocean, where the cool sea breezes coax out zesty minerality and layers
of green apple, lime, chalky minerality and electric acidity. While it
has both nerve and energy, there is also an inviting creaminess to
this wine that offers a lovely counterpoint to the fruit's precision
and stoniness. This is one of the most fascinating, distinctly
textured whites we've seen in California, rivaling any exalted white
Burgundy for a fraction of the price. Drink now, or cellar for a few
years - she'll only get better with age.
