2018 Eugenio Bocchino 'Tom' Barbera d’Alba
2018 Eugenio Bocchino 'Tom' Barbera d’Alba
*ONLY AVAILABLE FOR CA DELIVERY OR SF PICKUP*
Region: La Morra < Piemonte < Italy
Grapes: Barbera
Vineyard/Cellar Stats: Biodynamic farming; clay, sand, limestone soil, used barrels + cement vats; unfined/unfiltered with minimal So2 at bottling; 13.5% ABV
Winemaker: Eugenio + Cinzia Bocchino
The Bocchino estate in La Morra was founded in 1996 by husband and wife duo Eugenio and Cinzia, who inherited the land from Cinzia’s grandparents. Eugenio focuses on the (super low-intervention) winemaking and Cinzia, a biologist, soothes and coddles the vineyards with her biodynamic preparations. This light-handed combo results in wines that are old-school and classic yet feel fresh and modern -- not your daddy's grand Piemonte wines, but ones you want to rock with tacos.
Like this beautiful Barbera d’Alba, fragrant and layered, with wild cherries, cranberries, licorice, and foresty notes that transport us to a vineyard in Italy. Zippy, and super drinkable, you want this with red sauce pasta or pizza. Tacos too. And how cute is this label, depicting the couple's dearly departed weenie dog Tom? Sold!
