Winemakers: Martin & Anna Arndorfer
Martin and Anna Arndorder each have impressive pedigrees in the wine world. Martin comes from a long line of winemakers, and was raised on his parents’ estate. Anna’s father, Karl Steininger, is one of the most respected winemakers in Austria. Both Martin and Anna left Austria to study and work in wine all over, but came back to their hometown, Kamptal, to make wine under their Arndorfer label. They are self-proclaimed soil nerds, and credit the health of their vineyards for the clean, expressive wines that require little human intervention.
We’re in love with their liter bottle of Gruner Veltliner (the Austrian’s packing big bottles with quality juice in a way that makes you feel smart and eco-conscious for choosing it, instead of just cheap). Packed with all the citrus – lime, lemon, grapefruit – plus hints of white pepper, intense minerality and Gruner’s signature acid that literally pops, this wine tastes like bone-dry 7up filtered over rocks in an alpine stream. A jug of happy juice, for parties, picnics and other shareable moments.
