Founded in 2004 as a family endeavor, Ciro PIcariello, his wife and their two sons work together to grow high quality grapes and make wine that authentically reflects their terroir. They started from scratch with two exceptional pieces of land in the Fiano di Avellino DOCG of Campania – one lies at a crazy 650m above sea level, and the other at 500m. Fiano is one of very few white wines in Italy that age well, but this one is showing beautifully right now. It’s a gorgeous example of Fiano – crystalline, pure, slightly salty, with a little honey and the chalky texture/smoky notes that comes straight from those volcanic soils. The grape is aromatically shy at first, but after a few minutes in the glass it brightens up with flint, lime and green apple. So perfect with braised greens, roast chicken or some pesce crudo.
