Nebbiolo made Piedmont famous, but Chardonnay, a French grape, surprisingly shines in this very traditional Italian region. Or not surprisingly if you think about it. Chardonnay’s home is Burgundy of course and Piedmont is similar in several ways. Limestone soils, check. Cool, inland climate with hot summer days and foggy Septembers, check. A culture of understanding terroir – another check. That said, of course no one is never going to replicate Burgundian Chardonnay but luckily Enzo Brezza is not trying to do so. And it just so happens he is making the kind of Chardonnay that would make any Burgundy winemaker proud, and frankly the style we prefer: unoaked, super crisp and clean with focused minerality and bright green apple, acacia flowers and a lengthy finish. The limestone in the soil is so clearly represented. If you think you’re not a Chard fan, this bottle will change your mind. Trust.
