Coronica was established in 1992 by Moreno Coronica after the fall of communist Yugoslavia. He focuses on the ancient indigenous variety Malvasia Istriana, which has a signature scent that Croatians call ‘Freškina’ (scent of the sea) – imagine the smell of the sun beating down on rocks covered in sweet briny seaweed. As the largest peninsula in the Adriatic, Istria is Croatia’s westernmost region bordering both Italy and Slovenia, with a coastal Mediterranean climate and diverse terrain. Vineyards are grown without the use of fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. Grapes are harvested in multiple passes and always sorted by hand. Peppery citrus, sea shells, bright salinity and a deeply mineral note. So beautiful, complex and food friendly. Love!
