Marilena Barbera is one of the coolest chicks ever. The fact that she took over her father’s vineyards near Menfi, in Southwestern Sicily, converted them to organic farming and began making seriously beautiful and natural wines, makes her even cooler. This deep pink rosato is her baby (hence the name, La Bambina, which means baby girl in Italian). It’s 100% Nero d’Avola from from a single vineyard with chunky calcareous and limestone soil, giving the wine nice structure and minerality in addition to juicy strawberry fruit. She has this to say about La Bambina: “this wine is dedicated to strong women, to their power and energy, to their tireless motivation in fighting for their beliefs, to their talent for problem solving despite difficulties and complications.” So drink up ladies (and the gents who love them), this is all-purpose good juice, day or night.
