In 2012, this historic estate celebrated its 800th anniversary. Dominique Gruhier, an early proponent of natural wine and cohort of natural wine guru Philippe Pacalet, took over the estate in 1990. Dom now produces a stunning range of wine from the nearly forgotten red Burgundy appellation outside of Chablis, called Epineuil, a tiny commune (only 100 hectares) with very cold growing conditions. The famous Kimmeridgian limestone soils, like that of Chablis, combined with a unique microclimate, make for serious and elegant Pinot Noir, as shown in this layered, graceful, age-worthy wine. Classic, elegant Pinot at a fraction of today’s inflated Burgundy prices.
