2018 Chahut et Prodiges ‘Les Groslocaux’

2018 Chahut et Prodiges ‘Les Groslocaux’

Region: Touraine < Loire Valley < France

Grapes: Gamay / Grolleau / Côt (aka Malbec)

Vineyard/Cellar Stats: Biodynamic farming; 25-80 year-old vines; clay and limestone for Gamay, stony clay/flint soils for Grolleau + Cot; carbonic maceration for 2-3 weeks, without racking or pumping, then aged for 8-10 months in tank; bottled unfined/unfiltered with 2 ppm SO2; 12.5% ABV

Winemaker: Grégory Leclerc

Before making wine, Grégory Leclerc got his Master’s in History, then dabbled in journalism and marketing. He turned to wine after falling in with a group of passionate natural winemakers in the Loire, purchasing 6.5 ha of vines in 2007 and starting his own domaine in the hills of Amboise in the Touraine AOC.  And we’re in love with his wines! Aromatic with spicy cinnamon notes upon entry, then opens to high-toned violet and pure, juicy red fruit that seems to levitate in the mouth. You get a little earth, spice, and forest floor on the finish. Super clean and delicious – a great example of what a practically zero-zero wine can be with quality fruit and careful winemaking.
