2020 Weingut Schlossmuhlenhof Pinke Pinke Rose

Region: Rheinhessen < Germany

on October 8th, macerated together whole cluster for 24 hours then
pressed off to steel to wild ferment for 6 weeks and rest on the lees
for a few months before bottling, unfined/unfiltered with minimal
added So2; 10% ABV

Winemaker: Nicolas Michel

The Schloss Mühlenhof property is a large estate (nearly 20ha) spread
across the slopes above Kettenheim, 3km south of Alzey. This size
would seem reasonable, if not expected, considering the estate was
started in 1846 and is now under the command of the 6th generation. It
started as a rye and wheat mill until the 1920s  when the small
vineyard attached became the focus for the family income. Now in the
hands of Gabriele, Nicolas and Walter Michel, the farm operates
organically, following what they call ‘ecologically healthy’ farming
practices, with the intent on capturing the fruity expression of the
Rheinhessen style.

Which they do perfectly in this wine, a blend of skin-contact white
grapes (Muller-Thurgau and Gelber Muskateller) with a touch of Red
(Sankt Laurent) for extra color.  And what a gorgeous COLOR it is!
Happy juice that is floral and zesty, with punchy citrus, strawberries
and peach, brisk acidity, and a lingering finish.   And at just 10%
ABV, it's the perfect day-drinker for summer's last picnics, beach
days and porch hangs.
