It’s 1920 Athens and you see Spyros Markou riding through the city center with a puncheon of Retsina strapped to his horse-drawn cart. He’s making his regular route to bars and taverns around the city to sell the (fermented) fruits of his labor. Four generations later, the Markou brothers carry on the legacy of their great-grandfather as winegrowers in the Central Greece region of Attica.

With respect for their predecessors and a thirst for innovation, this younger generation has harnessed its inherited knowledge to produce the first biodynamic, dry-farmed wines in the family’s history. They’ve also worked completely without added SO2 for the last 15 years, and continue to play with different vessels and styles. And the wines are killer. Dionysus would be nothing but proud.

Pale ruby in the glass, this wine smells like red cherries and sweet strawberries, with the same poppy red fruit carrying over to the palate.  Super juicy with soft, gentle tannins and good acid, eMeis is such a great all-purpose red, for food, or not.
