Santa Colomba is an incredible project started in 2016 as a collaboration between Gianfranco Mistrorigo (the winemaker, with an impressive history of working with Italy's greatest natural estates) and Marco Dani (the farmer, with a degree in agriculture, focused on plant pathology). The estate is perched on the hills overlooking the small town of Lonigo, half-way between Vicenza and Veron,a in the heart of the Veneto region. The winery and vineyards are nestled inside the historical Villa San Fermo and its natural park.  The Palladian Villa at the center of 60 acres of land, surrounded by old vineyards, was once the home of the Giovannelli, a noble Venetian family. Later, it was sold to a congregation of priests and turned into a convent.

Gianfranco had known this hidden treasure of half-abandoned vines since childhood, waiting for the opportunity to restore them. The convent finally agreed and his Santa Colomba was born, the only entity permitted to produce wines from this special place. They immediately set out to convert the entire production of wine to organic farming, with some parcels already certified and others in the process of obtaining certification. Work in the cellar is all about letting the wine express the fruit, without any manipulations to get in the way.

Wow, and they are crushing it!  This Malvasia, whose name translates as "the bad road", is so delicious: bright, floral and tart, like sucking a lemon gobstopper, balanced by aromatic fruit and flowers and an earth element (lychee, honeydew, oolong tea with a touch of bitter almond).  The zippy acid finish refreshes the palate and keeps you going back for more.
