2018 CantineArt A Gaia Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo

2018 CantineArt A Gaia Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo

Region: Chieti < Abruzzo < Italy

Grapes: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

Vineyard/Cellar Stats: Organic farming; silted clay soil; pressed and
fermented in stainless steel; 13% ABV

Winemaker: Francesca di Nisio

The name of the winery comes from the fusion of two concepts:
“Cantina” (cellar) and “Arte” (art). The latter, in this case, refers
to the art of making wine and olive oil. Because these two things are
what drive young winemaker Francesca di Nisio, who has had a lifelong
connection to her passion for farming, thanks to her grandmother
passing on the family traditions and a deep love for nature. That
passion has transformed CantinArte from a small collection of
vineyards and olive orchards to a certified organic estate of honest
wines and olive oils.

The Cerasuolo, Francesca's baby (that's her depicted on the label), is
a traditional rosé style from Abruzzo that gets its deep, rich color
from being left on the skins for 8-10 hours before it is pressed and
fermented. The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes in it hail from a
vineyard on the mid-slopes of the Chieti hillsides, just 15km from the
Adriatic coast and 10km from the Majella mountains.  It smells like
spring and plush strawberries.  It tastes like ripe, juicy
strawberries on a blanket of grass and herbs, with a soft, round
mouthfeel, bright acidity and gentle tannins framing the fruit
flavors.  Lovely on its own, it also makes a fantastic food wine,
bridging the gap between meat, veggies and everything in between!
