Sisters Susanna and Magdelana Grassi, whose family has owned and worked the I Fabbri estate since the 12th century, took over from their father in 2000.  They’re in Lamole, which is a unique micro-appellation within Chianti Classico – with higher altitude (500 meters), larger diurnal range (the gap between day and night time temps that is important for freshness), more rainfall, and sandstone soils, the reds from this area have are very different from those a stone’s throw away in Greve or Panzano. Rather than the typical rounded and concentrated version of Chianti Classico), Lamole wines are more subtle, less dense, more feminine, with tart cranberry fruit, sour cherries, This wine is so pretty and old-school, with a combo of earth, sour cherry, tea, herb and rocky minerality that is absolutely delicious, and extremely food friendly.
