Bardolino is just north of Valpolicella in Italy's Veneto region, and relies on the same grapes (Corvina, Molinara, Corvinone and Rondinella) as those wines.  This region is an oasis of green gently massaged by the mild microclimate of Lake Garda, and the organic Fasoli Gino estate is a biodiverse haven in the Veneto hills near the lake.  Founded back in 1925 by Amadio Fasoli, the Fasoli Gino estate was then a fruit and vegetable farm, making some wine for consumption in Veronese bars. Committed to biodiversity and maintaining soil health, they turned to organic viticulture in 1980 and went even further in 2006 by becoming Demeter-certified for biodynamic farming. Today it is run by the family's 4th generation, who continue to make the famous wines (Valpolicella, Amarone, etc.) but have also branched out to create a second, more experimental second label called Tasi.

This pretty Bardolino here is one of the classic wines in the "La Corte del Pozzo" line that is made in support of the local community. Here's how they describe it: "Since the 1990s, Fasoli Gino has been working with a community of young disadvantaged people in Bardolino. This partnership combines both the social needs of the area with that of protection of the landscape. The community’s vineyards are located on a beautiful hill overlooking Lake Garda where ancient olive groves and vineyards are tended with organic farming methods.  The grapes for this wine are cultivated by members of the “Associazione Comunita’ dei Giovani”, young adults with special needs."  Oh how we love this story behind the wine!

But a good story is not enough -- the wine must be good.  And this one is absolutely delicious!   Light, fresh and juicy, it's packed with bright red fruit (cherry, raspberry, pomegranate) and  rose petals, with a hint of sweet spice. Easy drinking and so quaffable, it makes the perfect chilled afternoon refresher or starter red for a meal with friends, pair well beautifully with a wide range of dishes.
