Winemaker: Bojan Kobal

In Northeast Slovenia, near the Austrian border, the Kobal family is
continuing the wine tradition that has existed in this region since
Roman times.  Here, hot summers and cold, dry winters, combined with
high elevation vineyards and super rocky gravel/clay over marl soils,
give this region a uniquely awesome terroir for producing fresh, crisp
and elegant wines.   It's a special place where the steep, rocky
slopes force the roots of the vines to go deep into the ground to find
water, thus absorbing that minerality we love.  Owner and winemaker,
Bojan Kobal, is a true scientist of his craft.

We love Bojan's playful Pet-Nats, but this skin contact Sauv Blanc was
a fun new discovery.  While technically an orange wine, this baby
shows up innocently enough, shyly sporting a pale, hazy yellow hue in
the glass, but her wild side comes out once you dive in.  It smells
intensely aromatic, like zesty grapefruit and orange blossom, flavors
echoed on the palate alongside juicy nectarine, ginger and passion
fruit, and finishes with a salty, richly textured wave of acid and
minerality.  Super interesting and delicious orange wine from
Slovenia.
