Hollow Wines is a newish natty California project from Woodson “Quinn” Hobbs, who grew up in Portola Valley, with his Aussie wife Alison and their daughter Mina. They currently live in LA but make the wine in Gilroy, sourcing fruit from organic vineyards up and down the state.  Quinn not only has the Midas touch with wine, he's also getting his PhD in global leadership and change so that he can help other wineries produce low-carbon wine that’s better for the planet and the people.  To that end, Hobbs requires fruit sources to be organic. If you use Roundup anywhere on the property, it's a firm no-go. “Roundup is a disaster for this planet,” he says. He considers himself a practitioner of No B.S. winemaking, which he equates to minimal intervention and using wild yeast with no adds other than some sulfur. Some might call it natural winemaking, but he prefers to say “simply good wine making.”

We'll let Quinn tell us about this gloriously pink, joyful wine: "Cru Boy Jealous is my homage to Beaujolais Nouveau. The name came from an autocorrected SMS to another winemaker. When I tried to write Cru Beaujolais, my phone autocorrected to cru boy jealous, and the name has stuck in our brains ever since!  In terms of winemaking, I wanted to create something similar to Beaujolais Nouveau but also different; Pinot Gris was the perfect grape (especially from Santa Cruz County) because it had nice acidity with some extended hang time (actually picked 2 weeks later than our Cienega Pinot Gris). The grapes were hand-harvested and hand-sorted into Flex tank eggs, where they underwent carbonic maceration for 13 days, then pressed back into the eggs until they completed ML and were bottled shortly after with no added SO2 (a true 0/0 wine!)"

This is such a fun wine, the perfect 'tweener (not quite rosé, not quite red).  It smells like candy, but the palate is more serious, with surprising grip and texture.  You get a hit of Sweet Tarts on the front, but then its rocks and stones, nectarines and fuzzy peach skin in the glass, dry as a bone, leaving you thirsty for more.  Something this light and pretty screams "festive day drinker", so feel free to pop her for any and all festivities, from baby shower to Superbowl Sunday.
