Franciacorta (near Milan), a region known for producing top quality Methodo Classico bubbles (Italy’s answer to Champagne), is nestled between Lago Iseo and the Alps to the north, the Oglio River to the west, and morainic hills - glacial remnants - to the east.  Long ago, a glacier rolled south from the Alps through Franciacorta, depositing minerals on its way. The historic glacier left behind well-drained soils, and a unique mineral character that the vines love to suck up. The young Alessandra Divella started the only female-led estate in Franciscortia, and is doing this prestigious region proud. This non-vintage Brut Rosé ‘Clo Clo’ is 100% Pinot Noir, from the 2015 harvest. The grapes were pressed ever so gently in cool conditions, translating to a beautiful light pink rose with poppy citrus notes,  hints of dried fruit and a kiss of brioche (like a delicious panettone!) It drinks like a top Champagne, but way more interesting, cleaner and more affordable than most. Which is why this winter you’ll find us drinking Alessandra's Clo Clo while imagining ourselves on holiday in Lake Como, looking glamorous and soaking up that warm Italian sun.
